"The Man on Top of the Mountain Didn't Fall There"
Bear with me as I introduce myself and how I got here in the first place.
I never thought I’d get into sales and marketing with the engineering background I have. I cringed at the thought of hard selling any products to anybody. I even shy away from any sales person at the shop if they ask me if I need something in particular.
During my time in the corporate world, it became evident that while it offers stability, opportunities for career advancement, and financial rewards, these benefits are often coupled with elevated stress levels and less time with loved ones and pursuing personal dreams. To illustrate, our lead designer faced significant emotional distress when she learned of her father's cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, she couldn't just fly back to India due to our ongoing product release, which also had adverse effects on her own well-being.
I had been contemplating self-improvement and upskilling, but these observations sapped my motivation to make progress through self-study. At 42, it's becoming clear that I've grown weary of the constant hustle. Discovering the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement only added to my concerns. The realization that I need to amass $2 million to sustain my desired lifestyle is quite overwhelming. I recognize the necessity of diversifying my income streams to lead the kind of life I desire while still in good health and at the prime of my life. After all, they say life truly begins at forty.
I cannot leave my full time job now but I need a side-hustle. An outlet for creativity, to gather a sense of accomplishment, and to potentially serve as my backup plan for the unforeseen future. Online business held a strong allure for me, driven by numerous compelling factors. It offers a wide range of business models including e-commerce, affiliate marketing, freelancing, digital products, and more. And, as the realm of AI continues to expand online, its scale of influence is only increasing. Consequently, I made the decision to embark on an entrepreneurial journey and establish my footprint within the dynamic digital landscape.
To blog or not to blog?
But the digital world is so intimidating. Can I really make it on my own? There are a lot of gurus online who have mastered the art and psychology of marketing. I fell into one of the webinars that teaches marketing strategy that offers lucrative results. But the efforts and money needed only destabilizes my savings and personal world. They would lure you in to find out that there are more hidden expenses to continue garnering support from them. And then you’ll find out that they have an “improved version of the course” now at a discounted price for its members. I mean I was blinded before but refused to fall into another trap.
But I am still grateful about the experience. I was at the heart of online marketing. I learned about conversions, scripts, click-through rate, cost per clicks, and creating ads. At first, I thought scripts are like programming scripts. I didn’t even know what copywriting was. There are a lot of marketing jargons in between. I realized I don’t know what I don’t know. So, I took a step back and took it slow.
I started learning about online entrepreneurship and decided to build it organically. Never forcing it. Overcoming and avoiding the shiny object syndrome. Setting my goals and staying true to it. I am consuming a lot of materials now on how to start a business online. I also decided to make something productive about it. Thus, this blog. This is to document how I fare in the digital realm of entrepreneurship.
But blogging existed for years! Is there a room for more creators or bloggers out there?
I am an introvert and a private person. Blogging means sharing some personal information about my life. Why would I want to do that? I had to dig deep to answer this question. And it all comes round to my values. I value serving others so much and if there is something I can contribute to somebody albeit so little, then I am up for it.
I am unique because my experiences are my own. I believe that I can share something of value while still learning to navigate the digital landscape. Blogging is not easy. But I am positive that once the income starts to trickle in, I can invest in a good copywriting and creative content software to make my writing palatable.
The question in everybody’s mind is … can I really make money out of blogging?
Absolutely, there's no denying it! Esteemed thought leaders firmly believe that blogging remains a potent strategy for enhancing your brand, connecting with your audience, and propelling your business forward. For me, having my very own blog and online business feels like occupying the front-row seat as this event unfolds. However, let's remember the sage words: "The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there." To reach the summit, I need to bring my A-game, approach this endeavor with unbridled passion, and relentlessly refine my craft.
